Principle & Structure

How a Bottled Water Line Works

Bottled water is water without sugar: still water (purified, mineral, spring or distilled), soda or sparkling water, and functional water. A bottled water filling machine fills it into PET bottles, glass bottles, aluminum cans and 5-gallon barrels.

Filling principle. The machine fills by atmospheric-pressure (gravity) filling: when the pressure in the filling tank equals atmospheric pressure, the water flows into the bottle by gravity, and filling stops automatically when the level reaches the vent tube.

Inside the monoblock. Bottles are rinsed first — clamps flip each bottle 180° so nozzles wash its inner wall — then filled and capped in one synchronized machine. All liquid-contact parts are SUS304 or SUS316, and for a new cap type only the capping head and seat need changing.

Process Flow

From Raw Water to Palletized Cases

Each station is synchronized by a central PLC. Your line may add or skip stations, depending on your drink, container and output.

  1. 1

    Water source & treatment

Raw water comes from natural springs, boreholes, tap water or desalinated seawater. Depending on its quality, softening, RO or ultrafiltration prepares it for filling.

Read the water treatment guide →
  2. 2

    Bottle supply

Blow-mold PET preforms on your own line, or buy ready-made bottles from a bottle supplier and skip this station.

  3. 3

    Rinse · Fill · Cap

A 3-in-1 monoblock rinses the bottles, fills them by gravity and caps them in one synchronized machine.

  4. 4

    Labeling & coding

Shrink or OPP labels for plastic bottles, self-adhesive or printed labels for glass. Date printing by ink-jet or CO₂ laser.

  5. 5

    Packing

Shrink film or carton packing; a grab-type cartoner for glass. At low speed, manual packing with one sealing machine also works well.

  6. 6

    Palletizing

A case palletizer stacks finished cases for the forklift and the warehouse.

Equipment List

Equipment in a Bottled Water Line

Every machine is built in our own workshop. You choose the stations you need — we quote a complete equipment list for your project.

Softening, RO or ultrafiltration, sized to your raw water.

Makes bottles from preforms. Skip it if you buy ready-made bottles.

Rinsing, gravity filling and capping in one machine, for PET or glass bottles.

Barrel washing, filling, capping and labeling for 5-gallon (18.9 L) barrels.

Shrink or OPP labels for plastic, self-adhesive labels for glass.

Date printer

Core

Ink-jet or CO₂ laser coding for plastic and glass.

Shrink-film packer, carton packer or grab-type cartoner.

Automatic stacking of finished cases onto pallets.

Selection Guide

Choosing Your Bottled Water Configuration

A few decisions shape the whole line. Here is how they change the machines.

Fill PET bottlesThen plan for…Bottles carried and held by the neck; plastic caps; shrink or OPP labels.
Fill glass bottlesThen plan for…Bottle-bottom support system; crown, aluminum or twist-off caps; self-adhesive or printed labels; a grab-type cartoner.
Run several bottle sizesThen plan for…Same neck size and a diameter difference of no more than 5 mm: one machine. A larger difference needs change parts (star wheels and bottle fixing parts); a different neck size also needs new neck holders, clamps, capping heads and seats.
Label plastic bottlesThen plan for…Shrink labels (PVC or PET) are popular on mid-scale lines. OPP labels suit big, fast lines — the labels cost less, but the OPP labeler costs more.
Keep the first investment lowThen plan for…Buy ready-made bottles (no blow molder needed) and, at low speed, pack by hand with one sealing machine.

Not sure which option fits? Send us your project details and our engineers recommend the configuration.

Know More

Bottled Water FAQs

Straight answers to the questions buyers ask most before ordering. More in our general FAQ.

Where does the water come from?
Bottled water factories usually take raw water from natural springs, boreholes and tap water. Nowadays desalinated seawater is a big source too.
How does the filler keep the liquid level constant?
The length of the vent tube sets the liquid level: when the level reaches the vent, the air path is cut off and filling stops. With the same vent length, bottle shape and size, every bottle is filled to the same height, and changing the vent length adjusts the level.
Can one machine fill bottles of different sizes?
Bottles with the same neck size and a diameter difference of no more than 5 mm can share one machine. Beyond that, we supply bottle change parts made to your bottle sizes.
Can a water filling machine also fill juice or soda?
No. Different drinks are filled on different principles, so each needs its own machine design — see our juice & tea and carbonated solutions.
Can plastic, glass and aluminum containers run on one machine?
No. Plastic bottles are held by the neck while glass bottles are supported from the bottom, and each cap type needs its own capping mechanism. Tell us the container material, size and cap type when you inquire.
